World Series Champ Nava Among Four Broncos to be Enshrined in CSM Hall of Fame

Boston Red Sox outfielder and 2013 World Series champion Daniel Nava ’06 is one of four former Santa Clara standouts set to be inducted into the College of San Mateo athletics Hall of Fame. He garners CSM honors alongside a trio of Bronco football players — Milt Axt ’31**, Perry Parmelee ’81 and Al Terremere ’30**.

ABOUT THE BRONCOS

Nava earned All-American Honors with the Bulldogs in 2004 and All-West Coast Conference honors as a Bronco in 2006. He led the 2006 Santa Clara team in batting average (.395), hits (79), runs scored (47), triples (4), and stolen bases (15). Nava hit .303 with 29 doubles, 12 home runs and 66 RBIs in 134 appearances with the 2013 World Series champion Red Sox — including two RBIs in Game 3 of the 2013 Fall Classic.

Axt, a Santa Clara athletics hall of fame member, received all-league honors as a Bronco before a coaching career that included eight city championships with San Francisco Polytechnic High School.

Parmelee, a record-setting wide receiver at CSM, played for the Broncos in the 1980-81 seasons and was an 11th round selection by the New York Jets in the 1982 NFL draft. In two seasons, he caught 85 passes for 1875 yards, good for a 22.1 yards per catch average along with nine touchdowns. On Oct. 11, 1980, Parmelee set Santa Clara’s single-game receiving record with 264 yards in a matchup against Cal Poly.

Terremere, also a Bronco athletics hall of fame member, garnered All-American honors as a fullback. He went on to serve as a naval officer in World War II and as an NFL official. Both Axt and Terremere starred on SMJC’s first state championship football team in 1925.
